ARISE

Friday afternoon, 5pm, 4 people. Topic is revealed : The World is a Ring. From that moment, only 40 hours to produce a complete VR game.

You guessed it, Arise is the product of my first ever GameJam. Our vision was to create a small puzzle game focused on aesthetics, as we divided the work between two developers, a 3D artist and a music composer. I was one of the two developers working on the gameplay interactions as well as some parts of the map.

The whole project was made in Unity. Due to the limited time, we took advantage of the VR plugin, which allowed us to spend far less time working on the basic interactions such as moving, teleporting and grabbing. For the map, there was a bit of assets creation, while others are copyright-free. However, the music and audio cues featured in the game were all composed from scratch.

In the end, we were able to build three puzzles in three environments. Players will need to be precise on the japanese island, test their reasoning on the desert island, and carefully search the forest. All of this happening in only 3 minutes, as the world will slowly collapse into a ring. Yet don’t be afraid, the music will tell you when the world is entering a new phase.

Below is a short video showcasing the game and its environment.
